Made it back to Vegas! I'll be staying with my friend for a while longer, you're invited to come visit when you get some time off school!

[ Why wouldn't he be in school anymore, what's happened to her son? ]

Yeah yeah, we've been over this.

[It's not quite a defeated sigh, but close. His chest hurts today, and arguing about something he has no control over doesn't help.]

Who's your friend?

The same friend I've been staying with in Vegas.

Kaito, is something wrong?

[aviatophile]

[Whoops, he went and worried her. His tone immediately lightens as he smiles up at the ceiling. At least he still has his mom during all this.]

Nope! Just been a long day. Tired.

[kaitou_mom]

You can't fool your mother that easily.

[aviatophile]

[He frowns and concedes. Clicking his tongue against his teeth, Kai sighs again.]

I think I got another year or two.

[Didn't know quite what set it off this time, but he'd been ravenously hungry at lunch.]

[ What happened to her baby boy? She was not going to lose her husband and her son. It wouldn't happened. ]

Kaito. why are you saying that?

[....oookay, that's weird. His mother has always been overly worried when they talked about this, but... she never sounded like she thought he was talking about his death.

He wouldn't give up that easily. He swings his legs down off the couch, sitting up so he can devote his full attention to this call.]

It's not that serious...

[His voice is wary now. Should he switch to a video call so she can see that he's okay?]

Then what do you mean you think you've got another year or two?

[aviatophile]

[He doublechecks the number, now thoroughly confused. Unless it's some elaborate trick this is definitely his mother.]

It's only been a few months, did you forget about the jewel?

[kaitou_mom]

A few months? I only got back from visiting you this morning. Sounds like the Kaitou Corbeau is going to hit the Smithsonian next.

Now what have you gotten yourself into?

[Corbeau....? What kind of magic...

He needs to talk to Akako.

Deliberately lilting his voice so it'll sound somewhat younger, Kaito throws up a smile and forces it into his words.]

Not since your visit, 'Kaasan. An old heist, that's all. Just thinking about stepping up a bit. You know, try and aim for early retirement so I can explore new avenues.
